Frankfurt Security Contract

Smiths Detection has announced a contract to provide approximately 50 Advanced Threat Identification X-ray (aTiX) systems for security checkpoints at Frankfurt International Airport (FRA).  The value of the contract was not disclosed.
The order from the German Interior Ministry comprises HI-SCAN 6040 aTiX and HI-SCAN 7555 aTiX screening systems which, the manufacture says, are: “combined with re-inspection components and other equipment” to enable carry-on baggage to be scanned for liquid explosives.
Smiths Detection’s aTiX was the first Liquid Explosive Detection system to receive EU Standard 2 Type C certification in preparation for the phased easing of the liquids ban in hand luggage. The aTiX captures multiple views of luggage in a single sweep and features automatic explosives and liquid detection. Smiths Detection says that its software algorithms can be updated to detect “evolving threats”.
Cherif Rizkalla, Chief Commercial Officer of Smiths Detection, said: “This latest order from Germany underlines our leading role in supplying advanced detection technologies that meet the strict EU security requirements for detecting liquid threats.”
