FL Technics Heads East

MAINTENANCE AND repair organisation FL Technics has announced plans to expand its network after it was granted a residency certificate to operate within the free economic zone in Ulyanovsk, Russia.  The move will result in the construction of three new hangars at the city’s Vostochny airport – the first is expected for completion as early as 2013, with the second and third following in 2015 and 2017 respectively.  The new facility, which is expected commence operations in 2014, will be designed specifically to handle a range of narrow-body types from manufacturers including Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer and Sukhoi.
“Entering the Russian market has been one of our strategic objectives,” said FL Technics CEO Jonas Butautis.  “We are one of the most experienced aircraft technical support and maintenance companies in Eastern Europe so it is important that we remain in close proximity to our clients in this particular market.  Furthermore, it will allow us to remain competitive in a region that is expected to be among the fastest-emerging markets for several decades to come.”
The project is valued at more than $18 million and, once completed, will provide work for up to 500 technicians, engineers and administration personnel.  Butautis added: “One of our main objectives is to maintain a highly competitive technical support and maintenance service facility in Russia, and now that we can see it being implemented we can look into the future with an increased confidence.”
