More Food and Retail for San Diego

THE SAN Diego County Regional Airport Authority Board has approved six additional food and retail concession packages for San Diego International Airport.  Changes are expected from late 2012 and new concepts include a spa, wine bar, and outlets for frozen yoghurt and gourmet burgers.
The announcement comes a month after the board awarded ten food and retail packages as part of the airport’s new concession programme.
“The additional packages approved today will add even more variety, quality and iconic local flavour to the future concessions at San Diego International Airport,” said Robert H Gleason, Chair of the Airport Authority Board.
Mr Gleason explained how pleased the board was with the approval and particularly with the inclusion of local, small and disadvantaged businesses – a goal of the new programme.  Furthermore, the concession packages meet or exceed the Airport Authority’s worker retention requirements.
Previously, the airport ran with its long-time master concessionaire model, in which one company ran all airport concessions.  The new model offers more opportunities for new as well as existing concessionaires, with the aim of providing more dining and shopping options for travellers, with storefronts representing the best of local, regional, national and international concepts.
