World Passenger Traffic Growth

ACCORDING TO the Airports Council International’s World Annual Traffic Report, worldwide airport passengers increased by 6.6% in 2010 (compared to 2009) to reach 5.04 billion for the full year.  That marked the most passengers ever in a single year while cargo volumes also hit a record, surging past 91 million tonnes with a 15.3% growth.  ACI’s statistics for 2010 cover 1,318 airports in 157 countries.
The highest growing regions year-over-year were Latin America/Caribbean (+13.2%), Middle East (+12%), Asia/Pacific (+11.3%) and Africa (+9.5).  Domestic passenger traffic increased by 5.8% while international traffic rose by 7.7%, with 69% of airports worldwide registering a positive passenger growth.
ACI also said that preliminary statistics show that global airport passenger traffic rose by 6% year-on-year for the first six months of 2011.
