DNDO Awards RadSeeker DL Systems

Smiths Detection has announced a $4.5 million award from the US Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) for its RadSeeker DL systems, which were launched in May 2011.
The RadSeeker is a next-generation hand-held radiation detector and identifier which was developed with DNDO and other Department of Homeland Security components.  It can distinguish radiological and nuclear threats from background ‘false positives’ produced by naturally occurring or legitimate radiation.
Its advanced performance, small size, durability and communications capabilities are said to be ideal for a range of applications:  the RadSeeker can support civil defence and first responder search operations and help port and border personnel evaluate cargo, containers and vehicles.
Chief Commercial Officer of Smiths Detection, Cherif Rizkalla, states that the product is a great example of next-generation capability for the US Government’s anti-terrorism efforts.  “We are proud to have created a product, such as RadSeeker, with the advanced capabilities needed to detect and interdict threats to our borders and facilities,” he says.
The RadSeeker DL has passed extensive testing from the Department of Homeland Security and other government agencies, both in the laboratory and in the field.
