Gatwick Maintains Growth

London’s Gatwick Airport has released its performance figures for August 2011, showing a continuation of the recent trend of year-on-year improvement.
Passenger numbers increased by 3.6%, with 132,500 more passengers travelling through the airport than in August 2010.  The August bank holiday weekend in particular resulted in half a million passengers, with the most popular destinations being Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Dalaman.
Overall capacity was up by 86,000 seats with more destinations introduced in Spain, Italy, Sweden and Canada.
Air transport movements grew by 2.1% with the greatest gains in the short-haul market.
Average load factors also hit record levels with a 1.4% growth compared to last year, bringing the total to 88.4%.
