Delta Brings ‘Pink Plane’ to Heathrow

To celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness month Delta Air Lines brought its specially
decorated international ‘pink plane’ to London Heathrow.  On October 24 the Boeing 767-400 featuring Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s (BCRF) trademarked pink ribbon logo landed at Heathrow after flying direct from Boston.
Throughout the month of October, the pink aircraft has been flying internationally to help raise awareness of BCRF in Italy, Spain, France and the US.  The Boeing 767 has carried nearly 150,000 customers and flown nearly 6,000 hours – or approximately 104 trips around the world – since being painted pink in May 2010.
Onboard, the flight attendants have been wearing pink uniform pieces to support the cause with the proceeds from onboard sales of pink lemonade and jelly beans going to BCRF.
“The pink plane represents the commitment and determination of Delta’s staff and customers and has raised over $3.5 million for BCRF since the programme started, including $1 million raised in 2010,” said Perry Cantarutti, Senior Vice President Europe, Middle East & Africa.  “The money helps to fund 12 researchers committed to finding a cure for breast cancer.  I am sure that this year we can exceed last year’s million dollar donation, and I look forward to helping them reach that goal.”
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H Lauder as an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to funding innovative clinical and translational research.  In October 2010, BCRF will award $33 million to over 170 scientists across the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia.  Currently, more than 88 cents of each dollar donated to the Foundation goes directly to breast cancer research and awareness programmes.  And the American Institute of Philanthropy has awarded the Foundation its highest possible rating of A+.  BCRF is the only breast cancer organization to receive this accolade, and is the only cancer organization to currently hold this ranking.  For more information about BCRF, visit www.bcrfcure.org
