New Swissport Contract

Ground service provider Swissport has signed a five-year contract with Finnair.  The company will handle all of the airline’s baggage and apron services at Helsinki Airport in Finland from December 1, 2011, replacing current provider Barona Handling.
Mika Vehviläinen, CEO of Finnair, commented:  “Our aim is to further improve the quality, speed and cost-effectiveness of our baggage handling and apron services.  Swissport is a global player with extensive experience in ground services in international airports, and their competencies and processes are world-class.”
The partnership is part of Finnair’s strategy to save costs whilst improving quality to facilitate growth.  By 2020, the airline aims to have grown its flights to Asia from 74 flights per week to 140, doubling its revenue from Asian traffic.
