Brazilian contract awarded

STATE AIRPORT operator Infraero has awarded a $183 million contract to Brazilian consortium Encalso-Engevix-Kallas to renovate and expand Manaus-Eduardo Gomes International Airport.  Preliminary work is due to start by the end of this year.
The project includes the renovation and expansion of Terminal 1 from 462,863sq ft (43,000m2) to 1,046,824sq ft (97,250m²); this will increase the airport’s capacity to 9mppa from the current 4.2mppa.  Amongst the improvements to be made are the addition of two more boarding gates , along with additional check-in desks and a completely new baggage system.  New air conditioning, energy efficient lighting and the use of rainwater for some facilities will also be included.
