China Southern A380 Delivered

China Southern Airlines became the first Chinese carrier to take delivery of an Airbus A380, when it received B-6136 (c/n 031) on October 14 at the manufacturer’s Toulouse delivery centre.  It had placed an order for five Rolls-Royce Trent 900 powered A380s in April 2005 and becomes the seventh airline to take delivery of the type.
The aircraft is configured in a 506-seat layout with eight First Class suites, 70 lie-flat Business Class seats and 428 accommodated in Economy Class.  “We are proud to become the first A380 operator in China,” said Si Xianmin, Chairman of China Southern Airlines.  “The introduction of the A380 into our fleet is a very important step for the development of China Southern.  The economies offered by the A380 will undoubtedly improve our competitiveness on international routes and is the perfect asset to help us achieve our goal of becoming a leading global carrier,” he said.
