Lighting manufacturer ewo has supplied Innsbruck Airport, Austria, with apron lighting systems using energy-saving LED technology.  The installation is part of the airport’s strategy to focus on sustainable solutions in the expansion of its infrastructure.
The 14 high mast systems range from 44ft (13.5m) to 69ft (21m) in height and are equipped with a large amount of LEDs.  These can illuminate an area of 527,432sq ft (49,000m2), in accordance with ICAO guidelines and the EN 12464-2 standard (lighting of outdoor workplaces).
ewo says that the LED technology has achieved more than a 70% reduction of the energy consumption and CO2 emissions.  The company also claims that the system works with “considerably increased precision”, with less scattered light and reduced light pollution in the night skies.
Other advantages include reduced maintenance costs, faster reaction times and more varied lighting control.
