London Heathrow Airport is preparing for its busiest weekend this Christmas, with over 780,000 passengers expected to pass through its doors between December 15 and 18.
Tomorrow (Thursday 15) is forecast as the busiest day with over 203,300 people using the airport.
To ensure smooth operations, additional customer service employees will be posted in check-in, while dedicated family lanes and pre-flight play areas have also been reintroduced.
During the Christmas school holidays – December 16 to January 3 – 3.35 million passengers are expected to fly from Heathrow with over 6,000 tonnes of luggage each day.
According to forecast figures, December 23 will see the most arrivals at the airport with 35,000 passengers scheduled to fly into Terminal 5 alone.
Chief Operating Officer Normand Boivin commented: “The flight before Christmas is for many the most important flight of the year. At Heathrow we’ve pulled out all the stops to ensure our passengers have a smooth journey and a very merry Christmas.”
The top five destinations from Heathrow this Christmas are New York, Dubai, Dublin, Amsterdam and Paris.
