Kingfisher Ready to join oneworld

British Airways (BA), Kingfisher Airline’s official sponsor for its membership of the oneworld alliance, has just completed a thorough review of the Indian carrier’s processes and procedures ahead of its formal acceptance into the airline grouping on February 10, 2012.  BA formally invited Kingfisher to join the alliance in June 2010, following approval from India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation.
BA and Kingfisher established codeshares in September 2010 on 11 domestic routes in India and Sri Lanka and nine destinations in the UK and continental Europe.  This was followed up by an agreement covering frequent-flyer links in December 2010, allowing customers to earn and redeem mileage points across both companies’ networks, as well as gaining access to both carriers’ airport lounges.  Kingfisher, which serves 40 destinations in India, will be the first airline from the Indian subcontinent to join an alliance.  Its membership is intended to strengthen oneworld’s Asian network expansion plans.
