The Peel Group has held “constructive and encouraging” talks with local members of parliament (MPs) about the future of Durham Tees Valley Airport (DTVA), UK.
Peter Nears, Strategic Planning Director for the group, held discussions with Stockton South MP James Wharton, and Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham.
The talks follow the recent announcement that Peel Investments, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Peel Group, had become the majority shareholder of the airport.
According to Mr Nears, the MPs expressed “strong support” for DTVA and its role in the local economy.  He stressed the importance of involvement of both local MPs and authorities.
He said: “During the recent debate on the Civil Aviation Bill in the House of Commons, both Mr Wharton and Mr Cunningham took the opportunity to underline the need to secure a long-term future for Durham Tees Valley in the interests of the entire region – and the support of them and their parliamentary colleagues is very important.
“I was able to explain to the MPs that we are now working with partners – including the local councils, airlines, operators and tenants – to develop the plans for taking the airport forward.”
