Berlin will become the new German headquarters for UAE national airline Etihad Airways from June 1, 2012.
James Hogan, Etihad’s President and CEO, said that the move makes good business sense, adding: “This will also enable us to better leverage the benefits of our strategic partnership with airberlin.”
Etihad became the largest shareholder of German carrier last December, with a 29.21% stake.
Mr Hogan believes that moving Etihad’s main German sales and marketing office from Munich to the capital should also help stimulate local employment opportunities.
The airline will continue to operate its three sales offices in Munich, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf.
