TNT Airways is using a Multihog multi-purpose implement carrier fitted with a range of attachments at the company’s European Express Centre at Liege Airport, Belgium. The addition of the Multihog to TNT’s fleet is part of the carrier’s vehicle acquisition programme in response to a severe winter in 2010.
GSE Coordinator Maintenance and Engineering Claude Joslet first saw the equipment at inter airport Europe 2011 last October. A demonstration after the show exemplified the Multihog’s manoeuvrability and tight turning radius, making it beneficial for moving between the 1,200 machines that are on site during operation times at Liege.
TNT’s winter resilience attachments comprise a front-mounted hydraulic lift, tilt and angle snow plough, and a 35 cu ft (1m3) capacity salt spreader with adjustable spreading widths. These are fitted to the Multihog’s 90hp base unit from October to March when the machine is based in the operations department.
After winter, it is assigned to the maintenance department where it can operate as a forklift truck.
Mr Joslet commented: “This ability to use the Multihog for very diverse tasks, and its compact dimensions coupled with a very powerful performance make it an efficient and cost-effective solution.”
