On June 15, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Airports Council International (ACI) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) for enhanced cooperation to improve safety standards at airports worldwide.
Signed by ICAO Council President Roberto Kobeh González and ACI Director General Angela Gittens, the MoC’s objectives include supporting the development of ACI Airport Excellence (APEX) in Safety Programme, which is designed to help airports identify and address safety vulnerabilities.  It also aims to create joint technical assistance projects and share safety-relevant information through mutual access to the organisations’ databases.
The two bodies will exchange expertise and provide training, and promote regional cooperation between airports.
During the ceremony at which the MoC was signed, Ms Gittens commented:  “Today is a significant day for ACI and ICAO, and for all of us who rely on a safe and secure global air transportation system.  This collaboration with ICAO takes global airport safety to the next level.”
