AENA Aeropuertos has awarded the new operations and maintenance (O&M) contract for the baggage handling system at Barcelona El Prat Airport’s Terminal 1 to Vanderlande Industries Spain.  The contract has an initial duration of one year, with the option to extend up to three years.
Vanderlande has operated and maintained the baggage handling system since the terminal opened in 2009, but was required to enter a public tender process earlier this year in order to retain the role.
Freek Wullems, O&M Director Barcelona for Vanderlande Industries Spain, stated:  “In the last few years, the site-based service team proved that they fully understand the logistics process and offer added value in advising the airport how to make efficient use of the baggage handling system.
“In the new contract, we will take this one step further, with an important focus on cost reduction for the airport in general and on energy saving in particular.”
