A man’s body was found inside the landing gear bay of a British Airways flight this morning after it arrived at London’s Heathrow Airport this morning on a flight from Cape Town. Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), which manages Cape Town Airport, has
said it is carrying out a “full investigation” into what appears to be a breach
of the South African airport’s security defences.
ACSA believes the dead man could be a person who was reportedly seen climbing a perimeter fence on Wednesday evening before heading towards a BA Boeing 747 that was preparing for take-off.
An ACSA spokesperson said that security sweeps on the airfield failed to find any intruders and added that: “British Airways, in addition to various other parties, were notified.”
It is not yet clear at what stage the BA flight crew were informed of the suspected intruder.
