Departures will now be smoother at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Sweden, as a result of a new, time-saving self-service solution for checking in baggage. From today, the first airlines to offer the new service are SAS and Norwegian Air Shuttle.
The Self-Service Bag Drop, supplied by Norwegian company DSG Systems, is part of an investment in flexible, efficient automated solutions at Swedavia’s airports, along with automated check-in machines. The first automated bag drop is now being installed at Stockholm Arlanda’s Terminal 5, and will be followed up with a number of installations next year at Swedavia’s other airports.
Passengers will get their baggage tag from the automated check-in machine. These are located at the airport and its parking facilities but also at a growing number of train stations in the region. The baggage is then dropped off at the Self-Service Bag Drop counter, where passengers scan the bar code on their baggage tag and follow the simple step-by-step instructions shown on the touch screen.
Norwegian and SAS will also continue to provide a staffed bag drop counter for customers who wish to use one.
