On October 25, Air Canada began selling a United / Skywest Airlines service between Kelowna (IATA YLW) and Los Angeles (LAX) as an Air Canada flight on a codeshare basis which comes into effect from December 1.
UA5583/AC3940 departs Kelowna daily at 08:00, arriving at LAX at 10:51. The return services leave LAX at 18:40 and arrive in YLW at 21:44. These flights were previously sold as United Airlines services using a 66-seat two-class Bombardier CRJ700.
Kelowna’s Airport Director Sam Samaddar commented, “This will be a benefit to the consumer. Both Air Canada and United Airlines will be able to promote the route with Skywest Airlines as the actual operating carrier. Worldwide, consumers will be able to book the flight on either the Air Canada or United Airlines websites (or through a travel agency) as a non-stop flight and continue to collect the mileage points they are used to collecting with either airline. This will allow for seamless connections to many points within the United Airlines system as an Air Canada flight throughout your journey. For example, you can fly from YLW to Albuquerque (ABQ), NM on AC3940 connecting to AC4462 and the airfare is a very competitive single air carrier tariff rate.”
WestJet is also due to launch a new seasonal YLW to LAX Saturday service from November 3 through to April 27, 2013.
