Oslo Considers Runway Options

Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL) has announced that a decision on where its third runway will be built will be made: “in 2013”.  The Norwegian Government has already decided that land will be set aside for this purpose; so now it is just a question of which location to choose.
Vegar Gystad, the airport’s Head of Media Relations commented: “It is natural that a number of debates will arise regarding such a selection.  OSL therefore wants to be open and transparent about the process that has already taken place, as well as which option we believe is best.
“The move from [the city’s previous airport] Fornebu to Gardermoen [in 1998] taught us the importance of a long-term perspective.  The government has already made a policy decision to reserve land area for a third runway.  OSL, on behalf of [airport operator] Avinor, has been assigned the task of conducting a study to identify the best alternative.”
A study of three sites is now underway.
