_In preparation for the ‘soft opening’ of the much-delayed new Doha / Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Qatar, a series of advanced passenger trials have been taking place at the new facility.
With the latest opening date of April 1, 2013, rapidly approaching, more than 1,000 men, women and children have gone through the trials to test the operations of passenger facilities from check-in and immigration to aircraft boarding and arrivals.
The airport’s management team says a further 2,500 people will go through further trials in the next few weeks to ensure a smooth and successful transition of operations of flights from the current Doha International Airport (DIA) to HIA.
Ten airlines are due to begin operating from HIA’s Concourse B on April 1, while Qatar Airways, the main user of the facility, will switch its entire operation from DIA to HIA:
“by the end of the year.”
