Global IT solutions company NIIT Technologies has signed a multi-year contract with Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the implementation of airport operations control centres (AOCCs) at ten airports, in partnership with IT and communications specialist SITA.
The contract is worth Rs 3.44 billion (US$63.2 million).
The Airport Management System and Resource Management System will be implemented and integrated by NIIT.  These will help improve airport management by consolidating multiple sets of information and providing accurate real-time data from one source.
The project is part of India’s Civil Aviation ministry’s modernisation plan.  Over the next 15 months, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Thiruchirapalli, Thiruvananthapuram, Calicut, Mangalore, Guwahati and Kaipur will receive the systems.  Chennai and Kolkata will also receive a primary data centre and a disaster recovery data centre.
The project has a provision for extending the solution to an additional 15 airports in the country.
