The Calgary Airport Authority has again been listed amongst the province of Alberta’s best employers. Now entering its tenth year, Alberta’s Top Employers is an annual competition organised by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. It recognises the Alberta employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.
Employers are evaluated by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers using the several criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement. Employers are compared to other organisations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programmes.
The editorial partners on the Alberta’s Top Employers project are the two largest newspapers in Alberta: the Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal.
This is the fifth time that the Authority has been acknowledged for cultivating a vibrant work environment.
The specific items the authority was praised for includes: support for employees who are new mothers with maternity leave top-up payments (to 93% of salary for 17 weeks) and offers flexible hours for when they are ready to return to work; new employees start at three weeks of paid vacation allowance, moving to six weeks for long serving employees, and can schedule additional time off with personal paid days off; helps employees develop their professional skills through in-house and online training programmes, including apprenticeship opportunities and offers subsidies for tuition and professional accreditation; and reaches out to the next generation of employees through paid internships, co-ops and summer student opportunities.
Cynthia Tremblay, Vice President of Human Resources for The Calgary Airport Authority commented: “This recognition celebrates the wealth of programmes we offer, as well as an exceptional work environment that helps us attract and retain some of Alberta’s best talent. We look forward to continuing to work with our employees to further develop our innovative programming and unique corporate culture.”
