Salzburg Airport (IATA SZG) has taken delivery of a new a PANTHER-S 6×6 fire fighting vehicle. It joins two PANTHER 8×8 trucks delivered to SZG in 1999 and 2004. These vehicles have a top speed of 75mph (120 km/h) and are able to transport the crews of the Salzburg Airport Fire Service to the end of the runways within a maximum of three minutes. The three vehicles carry a combined total of 33,600 litres of water, 4,700 litres of foam and 1,000 litres of powder in order to deal with aircraft. These capacity figures are slightly higher than those required by ICAO’s Annex 14 for an airport of the size of Salzburg, and therefore constitute a small additional contribution to passenger safety.
