Vagar Airport on the Faroe Islands will achieve record traffic figures in 2015. November’s 17.1% growth has pushed its expected annual passenger number to more than 275,000 in 2015; a new record.
In all, 259,996 passengers passed through the terminal from January till November 2015. This is an increase of some 10.7% or 25,176 passengers, compared to 2014.
The airport’s operation is benefitting from a recently opened new terminal and runway extention which have provided the foundations for a steady income and considerably improved profits.
CEO Jákup Sverri Kass commented: “In short, this gives us better opportunities to run a healthy business and attract new business.
“The growth of the Faroese economy and lower taxes on wages has resulted in stronger demand from the domestic market. This together with more tourists and more business-travel has contributed to the growth in 2015.”
