Deutsche Lufthansa has officially launched the world’s first Airbus A320neo aircraft at its Frankfurt Airport (IATA: FRA) home base. The airport already handles a number of other latest-generation aircraft including the Airbus A380 and A350, as well as the Boeing models 747-8, 777 and 787 (Dreamliner).
Lufthansa intends to deploy five new Airbus A320neo aircraft from FRA by the end of 2016. Fraport, the owner and operator of Frankfurt Airport, welcomes Lufthansa’s latest fleet enhancement, since the A320neo is one of the quietest and most energy-efficient aircraft models for short and medium-haul flights. According to Airbus, the departure noise footprint of the new aircraft type is almost 50% smaller than that of its predecessor.
All new A320neo aircraft will also be equipped with vortex generators on delivery, which have an additional noise-reducing effect.
