Washington / Reagan National Airport Celebrates 75th Anniversary

DCA opening day 16061941 (MWAA)Washington Reagan National Airport (IATA: DCA) celebrated its 75th anniversary on June 16.
American Airlines was the first airline to land at the then new airport, operating its first service from the airport on June 16, 1941 using a Douglas DC-3 Dakota.
To mark the 75th anniversary event, American Airlines brought in Flagship Detroit, a restored DC-3 which was displayed outside DCA’s terminal building.
Reagan National Airport served 344,257 passengers in the year it opened and reached the 1 million annual passenger mark in 1946. It handled approximately 23 million travellers last year.
