A freak rain storm forced the organisers of the Farnborough Air Show to end the opening day of the event early. Torrential rain, which began soon after the day’s aerial demonstrations had begun, reduced the visibility enough to halt the flying element of the day programme. The downpour then continued for about 40 minutes which led to some flooding in the exhibition halls. The organisers then made a public announcement explaining that the show had been cancelled for the rest of the day and asked people to leave in an orderly manner as the power electrical power to the exhibition halls was about to be turned off.
The show organisers later tweeted:
“Disappointing to close today’s show early. However, we expect to run a full programme of events tomorrow and for the rest of the week.”
