Germany’s Lufthansa has agreed on a pay deal to end a five-year dispute with its approximately 5,400 pilots. The airline has agreed to an 8.7% pay rise spread over four phases plus a one-off €30million payment spread across the pilot workforce following an arbitrator’s recommendation. Lufthansa’s union members have still to vote on whether to accept the deal.
The five-year dispute included 15 separate strike actions which cost the airline millions of Euros.
Lufthansa recorded a record profit in 2016, but said it was under pressure to cut costs due to the success of its competitors.
