Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operator and managing body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), carried out maintenance works on the airport’s runway during the month of October to ensure flights take off and land at optimal safety and efficiency levels. The operation, which lasted 16 nights, required complex scheduling in order not to disrupt flights or the continuity of any of the airport’s other ongoing activities. It was performed in a total of 48 hours by 185 personnel, who worked for an average of three hours per night utilising 70 vehicles on-site each night.
Bahrain Airport Company Chief Development and Technical Officer, Abdulla Janahi said: “Maintenance at regular intervals is an essential part of our operations. There is no higher priority in the aviation industry than the safety of passengers and employees. Ensuring that the airport is running at optimum efficiency levels and that all its components are in the best possible condition allows us to offer the safest experience both on the ground and in the sky.”
Closure of the runway is part of the preventive and corrective maintenance works, that follow a pre-scheduled NOTAM (Notice to Air Men) with durations and timings that have been agreed upon at the consent of the stakeholders within BIA.
BAC is the authority responsible for enhancing BIA and increasing the airport’s contribution to the local economy in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. In its operational role, BAC is responsible for elevating the airport’s operations, infrastructure and services. This is set to improve BIA’s capabilities and cater to the growing number of passengers as well as the changing demands of stakeholders.
