The Istanbul New Airport (INA) has completed its Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) programme in time for its October 29 ‘soft opening’.
The INA will become the world’s largest airport under one roof.
A seven-month training programme that started in March 2018 was completed at the end of September. That same month about 1,000 people took part in the first ORAT trial and 3,000 played a role in a second test on October 16. All participants pretended to be arriving or departing passengers from and to Istanbul to test the operational flow of the airport. Three Turkish Airlines airliners, an Airbus A330 and two Boeing 737-800s, were used in the second trial.
Approximately 2,000 employees from public institutions as well as 9,000 baggage items were integrated in the process.
The ORAT was performed with the help of experts from Copenhagen and Incheon Airports.
