Virgin Atlantic Launches 2019 Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme

The Virgin Atlantic engineering apprenticeship scheme is now open for 2019.

A company statement the airline is looking for motivated individuals who have a real passion for engineering and are willing gain on the job experience from Virgin Atlantic’s established team of Engineers and Trainers.  The role requires applicants to have a least four GCSE’s at Grade C or above, including Maths and Science, along with the ability to work quickly and accurately.  Candidates also need be a good team player, possess basic technical knowledge and have manual dexterity.

The three-year programme will see apprentices working on long-haul aircraft such as the 787 and the A350, which is set to join Virgin Atlantic’s fleet from August.

The programme will culminate in an EASA Part 66 Category A licence along with the opportunity to apply for a permanent role with the airline.

Successful candidates will initially be based at Virgin Atlantic’s Hangar in Crawley, West Sussex, before spending ten months at a training facility in Gloucestershire.  The purpose-built facility consists of a training hangar with fully functional rotary and fixed wing training aircraft, in addition to a variety of other training aids for ‘on aircraft’ practical training. Also included in the facility are avionics, composite and sheet metal workshops with integral classrooms all with the latest media projection systems. The final 24 months of the programme sees apprentices based at either London Heathrow or London Gatwick, for more on the job training.
