The UK company, Systems Interface, has been awarded a contract by SBC (Uganda) Limited for the supply, installation and commissioning of a CAT1 ground to air Navaid system at the new Kabaale International Airport. The airport, also known as Hoima International, is currently under construction in Kabaale Parish, Uganda.

Part funded by UK Export Finance to the value of £215 million, it is being built on 174 acres (70ha) of land in western Uganda, near the Kaiso-Tonya Oilfields. It is part of the infrastructure construction underway in preparation for the development of Uganda’s nascent petroleum industry. The airport will play an important roll handling the cargo and passenger aircraft carrying equipment and staff to develop the proposed Uganda Oil Refinery.

Systems Interface will supply a Normarc instrument landing system (ILS) co located with distance measuring equipment (DME) and a Doppler VHF omnidirectional range beacon (DVOR) co-located with a DME. It will also provide and install an automatic weather observation system (AWOS) manufactured by Coastal Environmental Systems.

Systems Interface MD, Caroline Webster, commented: “As a winner of the prestigious Queens Award for Enterprise for International Trade 2019 this second contract win in Africa this year demonstrates our team’s commitment and determination to continue to develop and grow our International Trade.”
