The first commercial flight of an Airbus A220 aircraft took off from Montréal Airport (IATA: YUL) on January 16. The first passengers travelling on this Air Canada-operated aircraft were welcomed with many surprises to mark this important event.
Philippe Rainville, president-CEO of Aéroports de Montréal commented: “Québec is more than ever a reference in the aerospace sector. We are proud that the YMX International Aerocity of Mirabel [the former Mirabel Airport] is the assembly site for this next-generation aircraft. “An impressive concentration of industry experts are working on our site and this aircraft underscores the talent of our local expertise. Through YMX, we will continue to support Québec’s aerospace industry and its efforts to innovate, which will help to provide passengers with high-level services.”
Greater Montréal is deemed to be the world’s third largest aeronautics capital after Seattle and Toulouse.
