The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), has awarded Leidos and Thales a contract to supply up to 142 secondary surveillance radars for the Mode S Beacon Replacement System (MSBRS) contract.

The deal, to support Air Traffic Control management, comes as the number of aircraft flying is expected to double by 2036, which is leading to an increase in complexity.

Under the MSBRS contract, Leidos and Thales will perform programme management, systems engineering, design and development, system test and evaluation, training, production and site implementation duties.
