Indian airports to lose all passenger services as its government grounds domestic flights

India’s government has announced that no domestic flights will be allowed to operate from the early hours of Wednesday March 25 onwards.

This latest move to counter the spread of the Covid-19 virus follows its ban on international services which came into effect on March 22.

The bar on international flights is initially set to last for a week but, as seems likely, could be extended. At the moment, no expiry date has been set for the embargo on domestic flights.
Several Indian states have closed their borders and thousands of rail services have been cancelled across the country.
