Brisbane Airport (IATA: BNE), in Queensland, Australia, has announced that it has conducted a series of flight checks to test the airfield lighting system on its future runway, which is due to open in a few months’ time. The trials were part of its wider Operational Readiness and Testing (ORAT) programme.
The airport said the flight check trialled the six different stages of intensity for the lighting system during both daylight hours and at dusk/night-time.
As part of this testing, an aircraft approached both ends of the runway several times, flying approx. 50ft (15m) above, but not landing on the runway at any time. The airport described the tests as “A spectacular success”.
