Frankfurt Airport (FRA) has announced that its northwest runway (07L/25R) will go back into operation on Wednesday, July 8.
The airport’s owner / operator, Fraport said its decision to reopen is based on Eurocontrol’s planning figures which estimate that the increasing levels of aircraft movements mean the runway will be required to maintain “stable flight operations” at Frankfurt Airport for the forthcoming summer holiday season.
The runway has not been used since March 23 and currently serves as a parking area for widebody aircraft. Runway 18 West will remain closed until further notice and all passenger handling processes are currently concentrated within FRA’s Terminal 1.
Fraport says that Frankfurt Airport has been ready to step up flight operations since mid-May, having implemented extensive anti-infection measures in the areas currently in use in Terminal 1, in line with all health authorities regulations.
